I wrote this article because I’ve noticed that many young people romanticize digital nomadism.
The idea of working remotely while hopping between exotic locations sounds like the ultimate dream.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth: if you’re still doing work you don’t enjoy, the freedom won’t make you any less lost.
The Illusion of the “Perfect Life”
I’ve met many digital nomads who have successfully built their dream lifestyle — moving freely from one country to another, working online to sustain themselves.
Yet, when I talk to them, I sense an underlying dissatisfaction.
They’ve escaped the office, but not the feeling of discontent.
Why?
Because they’re still doing work they don’t love.
They’re capable of it, but they don’t truly enjoy it.
In a traditional job, we often blame external factors for our unhappiness — “My company doesn’t value me,” “The industry isn’t promising,” or “I’m not getting meaningful work.”
But when you go independent, there’s no company to hide behind. Every career setback is entirely on you.
